Good quote from a good show (Futurama).

Today we apply this lesson to this Snickers Super Bowl ad:

Everyone I know, myself included, found this commercial pretty funny; enough so that later it was one of the few commercials we seemed to remember. Well, the Snickers and the Rock Paper Scissors ad that I forgot what it was for until I just watched it again. However, not everyone liked it:

“That Snickers, Mars and the NFL would promote and endorse this kind of prejudice is simply inexcusable,” GLAAD President Neil Giuliano said in a statement.

Link to the article.

I think this is just a statement to try to make some organization seem relevant. This wasn’t prejudice ad; it was just an attempt at humor to get someone to remember a product. Get over it.

To me this ranks up there with the anti-drug people having a problem with the Toy ‘R Us supposedly promoting inhalant use. People are just hypersensitive and know they can get themselves and/or their organization some press so they make a big deal out of nothing.

More Super Bowl XLI Ad Commentary

So anyway, for the most part I was unimpressed with this year’s Super Bowl ad collection so I don’t have a lot to say about it.

Notable Super Bowl XLI Ads (in no particular order):

Emerald Nuts “Boogeyma n”

This was just weird, I love it.

Garmin Super Bowl Commercial

This one appealed to my inner Godzilla fan with the cheesy monster battle and cheap-looking set, another good one.

New Steak Grilled Taquitos

I like talking animals, this one was pretty decent.

But He Has Bud Light

Nice “B” horror movie vibe and it was funny too.

Snickers Super Bowl Ad

“Do something manly”

More Disappointment

Something else I was unimpressed with, Puppy Bowl’s Kitten Half Time Show. Yeah I watched some of it, wanna fight about it? Anyway, I think everyone agreed, the dogs were definitely “on” something because they were way more active in Puppy Bowl III than they were in Puppy Bowl I or II.

There seemed to be a few dogs with inferiority complexes too, they were all over the place running, jumping, biting, and maybe even a little light humping the other puppies. But overall I’d say it looks like the Puppy Bowl is becoming more popular/well funded than it was in previous years. I wont be surprised when Puppy Bowl V rolls around…

I think the NHL needs more ads like this to help draw some fans (back) to the NHL/hockey. I also think the NHL should be on ESPN/ESPN 2 which would probably help them out a lot too, but that is just my opinion, but it does seem harder to find a hockey game on during the week now that the NHL is on VS…
